I was given Rough Rider for an honest review through Net Galley
Janice Combes has wanted Dirk since high school but his rejection after their one night together sends her running into the arms of his buddy, the selfish Grady, who only wants her for her farm.
Dirk Knowlton thought he was in love with Rodeo Queen Rachel but one night in Janice's arms sends into an abyss of confusion and bad mistakes.
Ten years later she has a son and a dead buckle bunny chasing husband and he is missing his pride and a leg. She is determined to get the man she should have had and he seems to still want to mess things up by sitting on the fence.
I will admit to putting Rough Rider down several time because I honestly couldn't get into the first few chapters but because I had agreed to read it for the review I had to try so I skipped ahead a bit to discover that I had to go back to the beginning just to get to the good stuff with some comprehension of why things were happening the way they were. On that note I want to say I am happy about several end details that if enumerated would give away the ending and spoil the book for everyone, in other words you really need to read this book. It maybe a slow starter but once it gets going you're in for steamy table sex with syrup (not telling you what kind) and a rather moving bed scene.

Two wary hearts ...
Janice Combes has two loves, bucking bulls and Dirk Knowlton. But Dirk only has eyes for a dazzling rodeo queen. How can Janice ever compete while mired ankle-deep in manure? Exchanging playful banter with Dirk is all Janice can expect-until the stormy night he knocks on her door dripping wet and needing a place to crash.
Dirk Knowlton is living the cowboy dream. Life should be good-roping, branding, backing broncs, riding bulls, but there's a void he can't seem to fill. After getting hung up by a bull, he wonders if this is really the life he wants. Restless and rebellious, he bolts...but there's a certain cowgirl he can't forget.
When a battle-scarred Dirk returns to his Montana ranch he's determined to hang on at any cost. Janice has come back home to lick her own wounds. When old dreams turn to dust, can two wary hearts take another chance on love?
