One More Second Chance by Jana Richards

Heat Rating

I was given this book for an honest review by Jana Richards & Manic Readers

Julia is a high school principal and the mother of Ava an adorable five year old. She has no time for romance and her fear of trusting another man after the job her ex-husband did on her prevents her from taking the time. When her daughter is injured and in need of medical attention she meets Dr. Campbell. He in Lobster Cover long enough to pay his medical school debts then he plans on going home to the west coast. That is until he meets Julia and Ava.

This will be a pretty short review because I was lucky to read enough of this book to even come up with a review. I ran across so many boring rambling spots that I was repeatedly skipping a head and still could not find anything to really hold my interest long enough to entice me to go back to the last book mark I placed in the hopes that I would want to go back to read the entire book. What I did read was well written and thought out (in some spots I thought the author was over thinking it) with no editing issues. One More Second Chance just wasn't the book for me and I hope that the author finds the right readers that will appreciate her book the way it should be appreciated. I do think that Jana Richards is a creative writer with a lot of potential and I hope I get a chance to see it in the future.

Abducting Alice (Warriors of Kelon #1) by Angela Castle

Heat Rating

Abducting Alice was given to me in exchange for an honest review by Manic Readers

While her sister can have practically any man she wants and flaunts every chance she gets, Alice is short and round and lonely. Her only passion is her career as a geologist and being her companies best kept secret because she makes them money.

When what looks like a meteor lands near her work site she excitedly rushes straight for it only to find out it is something different and she is about to get the ride of her life in the form of Kerr the hot alien that comes to her rescue and thinks she is perfect and his. What more could a woman possibly ask for? I mean we have a yummy possessive alien who is hot and sexy the only thing that I could think of that would be a good or better would be a shifter or a vampire but then again nothing on the planet could be better than my husband in the reality but the fantasy, yeah I could picture him as the hot alien, yummy yum yum.

I just love how Alice had to teach Kerr about kissing and then of course there were the lessons on how to please her which had to have been a lot of fun, even for a virgin. The fact the Kerr was willing to listen and learn speaks to every woman's wish that her man will listen to what she is saying about what turns her on in the bedroom. I do wish there had been more graphic bedroom scenes but other than that the book was fast paced and I was really sad when it came to end of the book now I have to consol myself with the fact that I will probably read it again someday.

I also noticed that this books have some vague similarities to another book I read by another author, they are clearly very different storylines but both involved captive human woman and aliens from other planets who were willing to learn and do whatever was needed to please the woman in question and those were the parts that were vaguely similar.

I actually have to admit that I have read parts of Abducting Alice before on a friend's e-reader, but I couldn't for the life of me remember the name of it and it wasn't until I got into it that I realized what I was reading then I got super excited because I had been trying to find this title for a long time so I could read the whole thing. And now I want to read the whole series which means my 'I want' book list just got bigger.

Mastering Elodie (Grizzly Pines #1) by Paige Warren

Heat Rating

I was given Mastering Elodie for and honest review by Manic Readers

Elodie's life can't possibly get any lower, can it? She is five days from being homeless, her cable is shut off and the light in her room is burned out how much more must she endure. Oh yeah, everyone in town treats her like she's nothing because of her parentage.
When the Davidson brothers stand up to two of her tormentors she isn't sure what to do, no one ever does that for her.

Beau and Beck just bought a new ranch and are waiting for their brother Cody to join them. When the two brothers walk into the diner and spot Elodie they do everything in their power to get her attention but she can't help but wonder what their game is. When they here two of the locals tormenting her they rush to her rescue. They want her and are willing to share rather than fight for her so they hatch a plan. But before they can implement the plan Elodie is attacked and they aren't going to wait for the slow wooing they planned. Can they convince her that forever is what that they want?

I heard a lot about how the town treats Elodie but I hardly read any of that in the book and it makes the book feel like something is missing. I think Elodie's character is well written and I like how honest she is about her thoughts and feelings. Beau, Beck and Cody were very interesting characters and I like how they don't waste time going after what they want. I have to say that the best scene though not a happy scene was the last scene with Casey, I could almost see the whole scene in my head and the feelings that were rolling through Elodie felt realistic and well thought out.

The actual writing of Mastering Elodie seems to be meticulous I only found a few spots where there were missing words but other than that it seems that Paige Warren took the time to edit her book which shows she cares about her work and her readers.

I am eager to see what happens in book two when I get the time.
