The New Alpha by K. S. Martin

Heat Rating

Tina’s parents gave her their bakery and house for graduation instead of a trip to Europe like she wanted. Tina, with the help of her boyfriend Luca have expanded on her parent’s business. Now she is just waiting for Luca to get more serious about their future together, that is, until her high school tormentor moves into one of the apartments above the bakery.

Mac has just returned home just in time to replace his brother as Alpha and to discover his mate, who hates him for what he did to her in high school. When Tina accuses him of stealing from her he is determined to find the culprit and win her heart.

Since losing my youngest daughter last July I have found myself going back to reading my favorites book or books from my favorites authors, kind of like comfort food, which is why I am reviewing The New Alpha again.

I love that The New Alpha is a sweet story that gets steamier as it progresses rather than rushes the whole romance into a two-day courtship making it a more plausible story line. Although, I find it hard to believe that Tina is totally blind to Luca’s batting for the same team and is not really into her. Then of course there is the fact that Mac knows the truth about Luca but put’s the breaks on anyway when he discovers what is up with Luca and Tina. Then of course there are the insane number of edits that need to be done in this book that seriously make it impossible to give this book a five-star rating (that I want to give it) or any rating for that matter really because with the number of edits I find it should be a minus one-start review instead of the one-star I am giving it.

Given all that one would ask why I really like this book so much, besides the earlier mentions plausible story line. I like how well written Tina and Mac’s characters are and how much of their back history was included added depths to each character. There were a number of funny moments and a couple that make me want to cry but it’s the funny, happy moments that make this story worth reading even with all the editing that needs to happen.

Quotes

“My father was a traditional baker and believed in a traditional bakery. There was no display case with the treats or the coffees. My dad says it’s the fancy education that his boring bakery paid for and that in thirty years, the coffee might pay for the college.” —Tina

“Gross. You guys keep your conquests to yourselves, these are my sisters in law, and I don’t want to know any of this. If they’re random that’s one thing but not women I know, okay?” —Eric

Original Review
The is a really sweet romance that starts out a little slow but sure does pick up momentum along the way as things start get hot between Mac and Tina.

I think that the author could have maybe added a little more about Luca's true motives and evilness early on other than giving hints that things weren't right between him and Tina.

Also as a big Gone With Wind fan I absolutely love Tina's middle and last name lol that was great at the wedding.

Tina is a successful bakery owner and is happy with her current boyfriend until her new tenant shows up. He’s a blast from her past and not in a good way.

Tina crushed on him all through school even though he tormented her and stood her up for prom. Why is he so appealing again especially since he is an arrogant jerk?

Mac is an alpha that recently moved back into the area after his pack dissolved. He recognizes his mate as the woman he bullied from grade school to graduation. Can he convince her that he’s not the same jerk from so long ago? Or will he be left without a mate because of the mistakes he made before he was an alpha?

Her Two Alphas by Sasha Wolf

Heat Rating

Fiona’s day isn’t off to a good start with her plumbing making a horrible noise and the darn plumber isn’t available for a few days. Hoping that the plumbing miraculously righted itself Fiona prepares for a shower only to discover the noise is much worse and worse her sexy next door shifter neighbors heard it and are now knocking on her door offering to fix it.

Her Two Alphas is a very short read that takes less than two hours and would probably be more enjoyable and actually fit the title if the two alphas in question had more than just a couple of cameo appearances in this story. While I am thinking about the title I want to say I apologize for simplifying it because I really could not handle the convoluted title that included the genre and while I am thinking of this ask why the hell does the author feel the need to make such a convoluted title like this – Her Two Alphas: BBW Billionaire Shifter Menage Romance? Please just put the genre anywhere but in the title because it makes it bulky and silly.

Book Cover Rating
Fiona is described as a full figured woman and even the convoluted title includes BBW (Big Beautiful Woman) so tell me how does the woman on the cover fit that description.

Book Blurb Rating
Needs some editing and to be rewritten to fit the book better.

Blackmailed by the Beast (Unlikely Love #1) by Sam Crescent

Heat Rating

Lily Jones grew up knowing that for whatever reason her family hated her and now they expect her to allow herself to be blackmailed into marring Wayne ‘Beast’ Brown just to save them from financial ruin. She goes along with it because she does love her family, and she has gone without love this long so why change now. Little does she know that her Beast does love her but he isn’t ready to say it but when he does finally pull his head out of his ass it will be just a little too late.

Some days it is so easy to write what I like and/or don’t like about a book and other days it seems just plain hopeless to figure out what I want to say and yet here we are with I book I genuinely like and have read more than twice and I’ve got nothin’. So Maybe just writing until it all comes to me will solve some of this brain deadness that seems to happen a lot lately in the last eight months. I have been searching a lot for books that help me bury my head in the sand so to speak and I remembered really getting into the characters and the story and so this book was chosen for that end.

Lily reminds me of Cinderella only Lily’s father is a live but treats her as bad as mommy dearest and the wicked bitch sister of the East treats her and yet they expect her to marry just so they can maintain their precious life style. Then there is Wayne who actually loves here but pretends not too and does nothing but hurt her over and over with his insensitiveness and all poor Lily wants is for someone to finally love her for her and who she wants to be. When Wayne finally figures out that he has to give more of himself it’s too little too late and Lily resigns herself to what she believes will be a loveless marriage because there is just no way that Wayne really loves her. You wouldn’t believe how many times I wanted to smack Wayne upside the head myself when he dug his hole deeper and deeper. The bedroom scenes aren’t super graphic are more hinted at then steaming off the pages but thankfully those aren’t need to make a story worth reading. I would give Blackmailed By The Beast a five-star review but there were enough edits to reduce that rating by one star so four-stars were giving to the story.

Making Her His (A Singular Obsession #1) by Lucy Leroux

Heat Rating to

When Alex’s father decides to marry one of their employees from accounting he is livid. He refuses to have anything to do with his new gold digging step-mother and demands that his father has her sign a pre-nuptial agreement. For months he avoids any contact with his father’s wife and her child, a rather chubby young girl. When he finally consents to a family brunch he discovers that his opinions of Elynn were flawed and he wants to know her better and that makes his like a bit of a perv after all she is only seventeen and add to add to that she is recovering from a huge trauma thanks to a stalker. Five years later Elynn is about to graduate college and when he mistakes a scene he witnesses with one of her best friends he decides he needs to make his move before another man swoops in and takes what’s his.

As a rule, I am not a big fan of these so called taboo books about step siblings, because it is not really a taboo since there is NO blood relation to connect them, except to maybe the anal retentive morons of the world. That being said, the blurb was rather vague but still managed to pull me in so here we are with a book that starts out very sweet and turns steamy about half way through. I really like Elynn’s character, there author did a great job of sticking to after effects of the trauma that she suffered and how it defined Elynn’s life. What I didn’t like was how they mentioned her stalker but that he was fleeting until the end, I wish he been more of a threat throughout the story because through the whole story the stalker was more of a peripheral cause not an ongoing issue until he came out of left field. In other words, if he was a continuing threat then perhaps his part should have been bigger than phone calls and flowers.

The blurb gave me the impression that this story would be told more from the male perspective which is what had me purchasing this book, since few stories are told strictly from the male view point and it would be a nice change of pace but alas this was told from the both sides.
