A Warrior's Heart (Gift of the Acients #1) by Bianca D'Arc

Heat Rating

I could say A Warrior’s Heart is your typical mundane little sister falls for big brother’s best friend story or even your typical every day military romance but if that were true I probably would not have finished the book the first time I ever read it. Thankfully this story is even better than the mundane and I would be hard pressed to find one this engrossing that I stick with it over and over again even with how many times I have read it.

Casey’s heart is so invested in Hal that I seriously doubt there would ever be a committed long-term relationship with anyone else, so why she seemed reluctant or nervous about it when that door opened was kind of surprising. Then again, one could argue that the male alpha vibe that he is sending out is over whelming and enough to make any woman nervous, but the things is, I don’t think Hal was coming on all that strong to make her take a step back but she almost did.

Because of the way A Warrior’s Heart is written I need to be really careful about how detail I share about what I enjoyed because saying to much will give a lot away and I really want you to read the story and judge for yourselves if it’s a good book or not. I do want the author to know that I not only loved the bedroom scenes I really loved the Dolphins, that was truly an amazingly cool scene. I do think more could have gone into one of the scenes with Casey’s brother and I really think Jeeves is my favorite side character. The story is well edited so there were no bumps in the road to throw off the flow and my only note was and I quote “I wish there was a book 2 in the series’.

Book Cover Rating
The cover is nothing to get excited about and I didn’t really look at the newer cover because this is the cover that came with the edition of A Warrior’s Heart that I own so this is the one I will rate. The cover maybe bland but what’s inside is anything but.

Book Blurb Rating
The blurb is what originally sold me on this book however once you are in the story you will find somethings weren’t played out like you would expect in the larger scheme of the story line.

Book's Blurb
Hal’s best-friend status with Casey’s brother always meant that the one woman he wants is strictly off limits. But now that he’s back from a harrowing mission in the ancient Iraqi city of Babylon, all bets are off. The strangely mystical experience left him and his Special Forces team with a new appreciation for life—and strange new abilities they are only beginning to understand.

Casey never thought she’d have a shot with the strong, silent Green Beret. Something about him has changed, though, and old feelings have risen up, demanding an answer. And her answer is an unequivocal yes. Now, to break the news to her brother and hope it doesn’t come to blows.

Her brother’s reaction becomes the least of her worries when Hal singlehandedly stops a car from running her down, then falls into her arms, weak from some kind of strange reaction. Whatever went down in Iraq has changed Hal and made him a target of foreign agents who’ve found his one vulnerability…Casey.

Grizzly Bear Buns (The Twelve Dancing Bears #1) by Sable Sylvan

Heat Rating

I chose Grizzly Bear Buns to read because I have never been to a strip club and in my younger days I was curious but never got around to going and now I honestly have no real desire to go to one. I am good with reading naughty books and viewing the occasional bedroom scene in the movies, even though I think movies need to be more equal opportunity in the nudity department.

Grizzly Bear Buns has a really great start with the strip joint and hot guys and all but after the strip club it kind of goes down from there making it a good thing that nearly 50% of the story takes place there before Helen runs away like a scared rabbit. The loser ex-boyfriend with his looser girlfriend take the cake in adolescent behavior that is just plain pathetic in adults, who are in their late twenties, sad really when you think about it. The bedroom scene could really use a lot of help I mean if you are going to have guys eating chocolate and whip cream off each other in a scene, for the love of all things hot and naughty, make the men naked and involve the man parts. The rest of the bedroom scene which takes place over a number of chapters is rather lame and uninspiring leaving me cold. I mean really a reference to communist in the middle of a sex scene, that is so not even close to sexy or hot, more along the lines of rude and highly inappropriate for what is happening.

I am having a hard time rating the heat in Grizzly Bear Buns because of the mood busters scatter throughout the bedroom scenes, they left me scratching my head and wondering what the author could possibly be thinking at a time like that. Clearly there is some active sexually activity going on but is it worth even a 4-star rating that I would normally give such scenes? They were graphic scenes but with the crap they left me with a dilemma of heat rating. In the end, I was glad that this book was a freebee and that I hadn’t wasted and money on something that I am going to delete from my library. The only question I am trying to answer for myself now is whether or not I should read the other books in the series also, as I downloaded them around the same time for the same reason I had gotten Grizzly Bear Buns.

Worst Sentence
After some thought on how to proceed after reading what are probably the worst two sentences I have ever heard in any book, I decided I would only share the second one. Both sentences were stated in bedrooms scenes and both would truly have been mood killers if the author had been able to create steam rising from the pages of the book. I am not sure if the sentence I am choosing to share is worse than the one mentioning communist but it should be close.

“It made the sensation of fucking the already tight human BBW even hotter and tighter.”

Book Cover Rating
The cover has two bears, the pole, money and two models so it mostly fits the book but the attention to detail is still lacking because the matching mating marks are missing.

Book Blurb Rating
The blurb has a lot of unnecessary jibber-jabber in it making it long winded.

Book's Blurb
Bear better have my honey...

The last thing on curvy Helen's mind after she gets dumped? Finding true love. But it's the only thing that's on the minds of Ryan and Owen, the two bear shifter strippers that call her up on stage, and make it their personal mission to make her smile by the end of the night...even if that means spending three hours in their private room, on their dime.

When things get hot and steamy in the werebear pair's private cocktail room, Helen isn't sure she can handle the steamy menage, especially after she sees that their mate marks are real and absolutely point to her as the fated mate of the two most handsome men she's ever met. There's no frikkin' way she can pick between dark and handsome Ryan who has rockstar good looks and Owen, the bear with a heart of gold that any gal would be proud to have on her arm. The BBW cuts things short and goes home, but she has to admit to herself and her friends that she broke the one rule of visiting a strip club. She fell in love with a stripper...twice in one night. Helen might not have a fairy godmother but this Cinderella's got the next best thing: a friend who just can't help but meddle, in the name of true love and fate.

Can the grizzly bear shifters find a way to meet the curvy goddess they are sure is their fated mate? Are they going to be able to convince her that what they have is a true love connection and not just them doing their job? And more will they convince her that they know how to share?

Find "Grizzly Bear Buns", a full length standalone 25,000 word novella with no cliffhangers, featuring a guaranteed happy ending. This is the first book in a brand new Sable Sylvan fairy tale romance series, "The Twelve Dancing Bears", featuring six pairs of bears who are looking for their fated mate. All books are set at the Bear Buns strip club, a place where fate brings together mates, and the male entertainers are focused on worshipping women. Things get hot and heavy fast, but can these guys prove that they have more to offer than rock hard bodies?
